- Kudroli Gokarnath Temple
The first temple we visited
in Mangalore was the Gokarnath temple,
which was one of finest temple I have ever seen. When we went, some renovations
were in progress. The temple glittered in the morning sun. Many eagles were
flying high and low around the temple. Lot of tweeties were inside the temple, which
gave me a chance to enjoy the sweet tweaking sounds, which was a welcome note
to us.
Gokarnanatheshwara (Lord Shiva), is the main deity. This temple
is located at Kudroli, which is around 3 kms from Hampankatta. Two elephant statues welcomed us
followed by a big Nandi statue in front of the temple. The temple has a Hanuman
mandir inside it. It also has a small garden with pond surrounded by beautiful
Shiva statues. A silver chariot weighing 225kg has been gifted to this temple, which is there for display. The architecture and statues were wonderful and we spent enough time in the temple.
Annadhanam (free food)
is given for the visitors. The visitors follow the queue in a decent manner.
Self service buffet system was followed. A clean hall was there to sit and eat.
I did not like the taste of food, but few tasted it well. Few wasted it too.
The Menu served on that day was rice with rasam. So kindly get a little amount
of food to taste; If you like it, then get more and enjoy the food. Kindly
don’t waste it.
How
to reach the temple:
From the main bus stand (State Bank bus stand) of Hampankatta of Mangalore city, one can reach the temple by catching city bus (nos. 1, 13, 13A) and getting down at Kudroli stop (in front of temple Main Gate). It is just half an hour journey by bus.
